She was 22 when she first got to know Brussels.
‘I fell in love with Art Deco straight away. The huge, anonymous character also appealed to me. What a contrast with the country where I was born and raised. Everything is more wellordered and organised in the Netherlands. It makes things simpler, but also more boring. I prefer the quirkiness of the Belgian capital. There is always something to discover. I have never ever regretted the decision I made about 20years ago to move to Belgium.’ After a couple of years in Uccle and Etterbeek, she ended up in Tervuren. ‘You really feel at home here, a place where you hear so many different languages and come into contact with a whole variety of cultures. Where you were born is completely irrelevant.’
