It was 12 months ago that Indre Mackeviciute moved to Kraainem with her husband and four daughters. She feels completely at home here, in spite of missing the snow and cold winters in Lithuania.
‘It may seem a bit odd in this era of doom and gloom but my husband and I have an optimistic view of the future. We are fully aware of the opportunities offered by an open-borders policy. We have more freedom them before and the chance to build a good life. Lithuania's membership of the European Union has created attractive opportunities for our generation. Did you know that "as calm as a Belgian" is a common expression in Lithuania? It is a reference to the Belgian draft horses they used to have on farms. For Lithuanians they are the epitome of calm reliability.’
